Golf and a Full Moon Hike

I was up early this morning. I haven't had my golfing gear out in a number of months. I am scheduled to play with Al, Teddy and Charlie at 10:15. The golf course is a good one I played last year with some of the old Federal Way gang when they were here on vacation. The course, del Lago, is in Vail, which is a sort of Suburb of Tucson on the East end. It is only a 45 minute drive from the RV park.

The last time I played was in November when I was at the Cocopah RV resort. I wasn't expecting much from my game. I just wanted to see my old friends once again.

Al and Teddy

I arrived in the parking lot of the golf course about a half hour before tee time. The other had the same idea and we all met each other in the parking lot. Teddy is here to take a little time from the stress of the last few months. He is awaiting test results from the cancer treatment he endured. We are all pulling for the best results. That's for sure!

Charlie made the tee times. He always uses an online tee time provider. It is actually a discount program most of the golf courses in Tucson are on. They offer special pricing for tee times that would otherwise not likely be booked. They will even take a lower offer than the advertised price. That's what Charlie did. The normal green fees at this club are $79.00. Charlie made an offer of $30.00 for a round with cart. His offer was accepted. What a bargain. It is a super golf course.

We played and I got reacquainted again; which took all of 30 seconds! My game, for some reason, was like I had never stopped playing. My score was in the low 80's and I hit the ball great. Teddy and I were partners and the 18th hole was critical. That's where I hit a miserable shot and it ended up in the pond next to the green. That caused us to lose $2.00 for the day.

When we finished, our individual schedules dictated we had to head for home. I had a previous commitment to take a full moon hike into the desert to see the sunset. Charlie had something going on too. We all left after hugs and handshakes. It is always great to see old friends again.

I made it back just in time to join Cathy for a ride with Dave out to the Saguaro National Park for a guided hike to watch the sun set. The park host these free hikes during the Winter months around the full moon. This is the last set of hikes this year.

Mac, Sam, Dave, Cathy and I joined 15 other for the hike. Our guide was a retired geologist from upstate New York. Our guide, Dick, identified some of the plants for us. He gave us a geology lesson of the formations we were walking through. The hike was less than three miles out and back.

All of us, except for myself made this hike during last month's full moon. But it was overcast that evening and they weren't able to see the sun set nor the full moon. That's why they were back for this hike.

we saw the full moon on this night, but we couldn't see the sun set from where we were. The sun was in a different position to the West and the mountain directly in front of us blocked the view. We snacked and a fellow from Holland offered his cookies to us before we headed back to the trail head.

Mac, Cathy, Sam and Dave.

It was a long day for me by the time I got home. I headed straight for bed. I was exhausted.
