A Nice Day and a Bon Fire

I woke up late this morning. I don't know why, but the couple of days, I've been sleeping in. Now, when I talk about sleeping in, I'm talking about between 7:30 and 8:00! I'm usually up and running by 7:30. I think though, if I sleep in until 10:00 I won't have any guilt feelings about it. It's not like the old days when I was rolling out of bed at 4:30 and getting ready to make the 45 minute commute to work!

Sleeping in until 8:00 and feeling good about it sure beats getting up at 4:30 and stumbling through the day!

Since there wasn't anything planned, I took my time with my coffee and email. The sun shown brightly, the temps were in the warm 70's and the breeze was slight and cool. Part of my morning routine is to scatter some cheap seed-cracked corn mixture called scratch on the ground for the doves and quail. I get quite a breakfast contingency of these fellas every day now.

There are a couple of colorful guys that come around too. I am still waiting for an opportunity with my camera to get a shot of the Pyrrhuloxia and Cardinal that periodically visit the feeder. The hummers are around, but are seldom seen at the window feeder. I have a hummingbird feeder in the mesquite tree behind the rig. But the Gila Woodpeckers usually sit on it and try to get a drink.

The whole day was a lazy one. I had downloaded a simple budget ledger to my computer to try out. Remember, when I had my PC fixed I had to reload most of my programs. Microsoft Money was one of those programs that I didn't have the original disk for, so I am without it and all my old transaction files.

I don't need anything as extravagant as MS Money for my needs. That's why I loaded this little program to see if it would fit my needs. It's called GnuCash. Unfortunately, it uses accounting concepts I can't understand. I unloaded it and surfed for another piece of software. I down loaded another and wasn't satisfied with it either.

I finally settled on a simple checkbook ledger called "My Checkbook" by Surprise Software. It has a 30 day free trial period, which I am on. If I like it, it will cost $20.00. Thankfully, it's not enough of a cost to be a budget breaker. Sometimes I think software makers should consider the retiring baby boomers more than they currently are. We no longer need the whistles and bells that come with some of the programming. We just need the basics for our uncomplicated lifestyle.

Well that occupied my time for most of this beautiful day. I could look out my window and watch Cathy doing some chores. I watched her clean her air filter on her diesel truck. She gave Rose a bath. She cleaned out her basement and replaced some partitions she removed to check a water problem she had earlier in the week.

It was a full moon this night and Sam planned a bonfire to celebrate. Let's see, she told me it is a "Pink Moon" also called the "Egg Moon" and one other name I can't remember right now. It is always good to get around a fire and chat with the rest of the RV'ers. Our numbers are dwindling. It is getting to be the travel time of year for the Snowbirders. The Fulltimers are also pulling out and heading North. Though they are taking their time and following the weather.

The social at the fire pit ended before 9:00. We simultaneously filtered back to our rigs. Tomorrow is another day.
