Back at the Northwood Factory

I'm happy to report my trailer is now in good hands at the Northwood factory in La Grande, Oregon. I made the 312 mile drive to Hot Lake RV Park from Murtaugh on Monday. I arrived in the middle of a wind storm. It was too tough to properly get set up, so I just left the truck hitched and rode it out.

That big cloud is actually smoke from a wild fire on the other side of the mountain. The winds have roiled it up into a major one.

On a side note:
I just got an email from Cathy, back in Murtaugh, ID. It looks as though the winds that greeted me here, gathered more speed and are now in her neck of the woods. Winds of 30-35 mph with stronger gusts can be a very hairy experience in an RV, especially if it is accompanied by rains - sideways rains.

The next morning I called the plant and made sure they would be ready for me. I brought the trailer in before 9:30 am. Dave greeted me as I walked up to the door. I have to say, this place bends over backwards to make sure owners of their products are happy campers.

Dave filled out a work order as I showed him the problem areas. They replaced two outside Filon skin panels last year at this same time for the same problems I'm having this year. This year all the other panels are showing delamination problems. The large panel along the entire driver's side of the trailer has a very small area of delamination. The large slide has small spots of delamination in all three panels. The bedroom slide has it on the two side panels too.

I was originally booked for an entire week for the end of October. When I drove through La Grande two weeks ago, Dave thought since the delamination is in small areas, that it should not take longer than two days to fix. That allowed me to move up my appointment to this week (yeah!). As Dave was filling out the work order, he thought they may have it done in one day. He iterated the people in the factory would have the final say and would not have a definite time estimate for me until then.

Okay, I'll hang loose until I hear back from Dave. I packed a bag for a two day motel stay and I had my dirty laundry in the back of the pickup. That should occupy my time until I hear word from Northwood.

On my way to the laundry I drove by a Walmart. I could not remember a Walmart here when I was last in town. Boy, I don't know what it is about La Grande, but I can not, for the life of me, remember anything about it. I thought some general shopping before laundry would help to kill some time.

That's what I did today. Oh, and it's my Birthday today too! Laundry and Shopping, away from Cathy, with my home in the shop, (...sigh...). I treated myself to a DQ double chocolate Blizzard, when I got a call from the factory.

They can't do simple fixes to the problem areas. The Filon skin panels will need to be replaced. They will need the trailer for three days to do the work. Dave arranged for me to stay at the local Super 8, at their expense. Wow, I have never seen customer support like this with anything else I have owned in my life. What's more, I am 4 months out of warranty too!

That means two more days to while away time.
